4.NARRATIVE TEXT

Ø Narrative text is kind of text that’s used to entertain and amuse the readers. It is a fiction text.

Ø Narrative text is someone tells to entertain,stimulate emotion or to teach

  The function narrative text is:

·         To entertain

·         To amuse

   The purpose of the text :

             To entertain,create,stimulate emotions,motivate,guide,and teach.

Generic structure (steps) :

1. Orientation,which sets the scene and introduces the participants (it answers the questions who,when,what n’where).
2. evaluation,a stepping back to evaluate the plight (the information  about the narrator’s point of view);it is optional.
3. complication,in which crisis or a problem arises,which usually involves the main characters
4. Resolution (conclusion),a solution  to the problem (for better or for worse).here main characters find ways to solve the problem.

Language Features:

-          The use of action verbs

-          The use of adverbs, adjective, and noun phrase

-          The use of past forms

-          The use of conjunctions

-          The use of  reported speech

-          The use of passive voice

-          The use simple past tense

Kinds :

•       Myth a tradisional story,which may describe the origins of the world.a place and or of  a people.it’s considered true sacred  stories in the remote past

•       Legend a true story primaliry about human horoes in the recent past and may feature some religious references

•        Folktale is a story which is regarded as fiction.it can be a non sacred fictional.story that occurs “once upon a time” and features human,non-human character

•       Folklore a collection of fictional tales about people and or animals it includes myth and tales

 

Example narrative text:

Babu and the Lion

One day, there was a slave whose name was Babu. His master was very, very bad. You know, he often punched Babu and did not offer him food for days. Poor Babu! So he escaped into a forest and slept in a cave.. ORIENTATION

Next morning, he heard a loud roar. In front of him...., at the mouth of the cave..., was a very big lion. You see, Babu was scared to death! Kind of scary, isn’t it? But he could not escape. But the lion didn’t attack him. It was tame. COMPLICATION

There was a large thorn in its right front foot. The lion lookedat Babu. It seemed to say something like:”Please help me. It’s very painful.” Babu walked bravely to the lion and pulled out the thorn. CLIMAX

Babu and the lion turned out to be friends. RESOLUTION
